My experience with mental health as a student athlete has changed constantly. Some days are harder than others. I had to sit out a semester due to a struggle with my grades that put a great amount of stress and pressure on my overall health. I felt like I couldn't talk about it. I felt embarrassed. And a year later, right now, I have never been in a better spot mentally. I thought I would never be the same player or person again, having to sit out a semester. My advice to someone struggling right now, as someone who was in similar shoes this time last year: time will heal. Time will help you grow and become the best version of yourself. That's not to say hard work and dedication come easily because you have to work for that too, but time will absolutely heal. Where I was a year ago, I truly don't recognize that person. With the help of friends and family, a huge amount of self-reflection, and dedication, I am proud to say I feel like a new and better person.
