My experience regarding my mental health as a student athlete has been challenging. I have been inconsistent in my love for my sport and have struggled to balance all the aspects of my life. In the past, I have had teammates, coaches, external and internal pressure make me question if my mental health is worth sacrificing for the game. In the end, I have learned it's all about balance and finding ways to ensure I am in the best spot mentally. Sometimes my sport is my outlet for my struggles, and other times, I recognize I need to take a step back from my sport to focus on myself. I hope every student-athlete knows that struggling and facing challenges are normal and healthy. The growth and development that comes after you have persisted is the most rewarding feeling, and it is something to be proud of.

My advice to anyone having a difficult time with their mental health is that you are not alone. You have people and resources that can help you get on the right track. Ultimately, at the end of the day, you know what’s best for you and trust yourself to make the right decision.
